Dozens of merchants offer discounts for Bitcoin Friday

November 9th, 2012

Today is Bitcoin Friday! It’s an event to celebrate the freedom of the Bitcoin market, and merchants are holding massive sales on a wide variety of merchandise. It’s a one day sale. Something a kin to a digital Black Friday. The goal is to raise awareness that this thriving counter economy exists and offers some great deals.

The organizer of the event, Jon Holmquist, is a Bitcoin merchant himself and the head of marketing of Coinabul. That’s where I buy my gold bullion, and I’ve always been pleased.

Dozens of Bitcoin stores are joining the fray, with plenty for precious metals enthusiasts. Get $10 off your gold purchase, or $1 off your silver purchase from Coinabul. Or get 3% off your Shire Silver order with the coupon code “BTCFRI.” But there’s plenty of other products available too. BitPantry sells baked goods. StompRomp sells guitars. BitBrew sells coffee and tea. A partial list of participating merchants is available at BitcoinFriday.com.

Holmquist says, “I believe this sale will expose how much cheaper it is to transact in Bitcoin than in U.S. dollars. The end goal is to convince consumers in the U.S. that using Bitcoin can save them money.”

About the Author: Davi Barker

In grade school Davi refused to recite the pledge of allegiance because he didn't understand what it meant. He was ordered to do as he was told. In college he spent hours scouring through the congressional record trying to understand this strange machine. That's where he discovered Dr. Ron Paul. In 2007 he joined the End The Fed movement and found a political home with the libertarians. The Declaration of Independence claims that the government derives its power “from the consent of the governed." He does not consent.
