Apocalyptic Film ‘Dragon Day’ Explores US Default on Debt to China

November 15th, 2013

A new film just released that Silver Circle fans will likely appreciate. The post-apocalyptic movie Dragon Day recently debuted on November 1st. American Thinker referred to it as “Red Dawn for intellectuals.” However, rather than portraying a Soviet attack on the United States, the movie’s plot explores what might happen if the US defaulted on its debt to China.

The protagonist of the film, Duke Evans, is an Edward Snowden-esque National Security Agency engineer, who finds himself struggling to survive after a Chinese cyber attack has crippled modern technology in the United States. After the attack occurs, he realizes that he was unwittingly duped by rogue supervisors into helping China attack America. In the wake of a nationwide power outage that has disrupted civil society and the supply chain, traitorous local sheriffs distribute special wristbands that, unbeknownst to recipients, will kill the wearer if he or she leaves a pre-determined geographical area. Check out the trailer for the film below, and let’s discuss it further after the jump.

Extreme Debt Has Extreme Consequences

Dragon Day‘s trailer ends with the quote, “Did you think that this country’s multi-trillion dollar debt was just going to go away?” The question demonstrates an important point: as real-life Americans face an uncertain future and a looming debt crisis, severe geopolitical consequences could erupt if the US debt crisis were to explode in a way that crushed another superpower’s economy. China’s market is inseparably tied to that of the United States, and a dollar crisis or debt default could affect both nations in a way that might create a pretext for war.

Much like Silver Circle, Dragon Day brings to life the worst fears of those who study the world economy. Also, it explores how warfare might change as new technological advances emerge. Dragon Day‘s apocalyptic scenario involves a virus-caused total power failure, affecting all modern technology. This plunges society into chaos.

Survivalists Will Appreciate Dragon Day

Those who are interested in disaster preparedness or survivalism will particularly appreciate Dragon Day, as its brand of apocalypse involves a total collapse of modern technology, civil society, and the supply chain. This creates a disastrous every-man-for-himself scenario in which no one can be trusted, and everyone is on their own to figure out how to survive. The typical real-life prepper, equipped with stored food, ammo, and other provisions, would be ready to tackle a problem like this head-on.

If you’re looking for an entertaining dystopian film that casts an ominous light on America’s looming debt crisis, pick up a copy of the movie from the Dragon Day online store. Similarly to Silver Circle, supporters of Dragon Day feel the movie’s disaster scenario could be a likely outcome given recent events in the news. The movie’s Director Jeffrey Travis was quoted by American Thinker as saying, “When I would pitch the film to people, I could rarely finish the logline before the reaction was ‘Oh my God, that’s really going to happen.’ Our joke was we had to finish the film before it became a documentary.”
