PRODUCTION UPDATE!
May 10th, 2010Today we would like to give an update on the production side of things. So to those of you who become giddy while reading system coding or anything animation…Merry Early Commercialized-Holiday!
Over the last year LinePlot Productions has built most of the digital assets for Silver Circle, including the hero characters Zoe and Jay as well as the underground world our Rebels function within.
We are in the final stages of revision for our script, and breaking it down into its schedule and final budget. Also, through a series of six experiments, we have perfected our workflow from script to screen – so that when we do our final performance capture (shooting) we will be able to move efficiently.
For all you software buffs, we are currently using Maya by Autodesk for modeling and animation, ZBrush for sculpting models, Nuke for compositing (arranging video layers), and Final Cut Pro for editing. We also use a combination of proprietary and commercial software to manage our Linux render farm and its queuing system. Here is a great video explaining the evolution of our main character Zoe:
Our team is small here in the studio, about 4 of us working on production. Our additional team members are a small crew located in Bombay. This part of the crew is working to build characters, model sets, apply shading, and do animation. They will be expanding quite a bit over the summer.
Raedia is our Animation Director who is in charge of coordinating the overall 3D effort and coming up with our more exotic shading effects and explosions and the “cooler” aspects of the film. She knows how to make a fuel-air explosive and is not afraid to use it.
Pasha, producer and director, has been quite busy lately, splitting his time between checking and critiquing our Bombay team’s work as they make progress on building sets, props and characters; and testing out our various animation techniques that we need to master in order to make the film great.
Technically speaking we are in pre-production and will be casting for parts in the film soon. (Keep an eye out for that!) Most of the shooting will be happening this summer between July and August. There will be plenty of action while that is going on.
We will also have the other part of our project in full swing once the final script is produced: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL. Jackie Musto, our illustrator, has been hard at work creating a graphic novel you will all be sure to love. Pages of the graphic novel will be released this summer.
