Fed News Friday

September 10th, 2010

Today the WSJ decided to ask 6 “top monetary officials” about what the Federal Reserve should do in their next attempt to reenergize the economy. Let’s get some background information on WSJ’s advisors referenced in this popularly searched article.

John B. Taylor – John served as a top economic advisor for the Bush (II) administration. Influences listed on his Wiki page were Milton Friedman and John Maynard Keynes.

Richard W. Fisher – He is the current Fed President of the Dallas branch.

Frederic Mishkin – Past board member for the Fed (until 2008).  Currently an economics professor at Columbia Business School.

Ronald I. McKinnon – Currently teaching at Stanford in the economics department.  Much of his work focuses on trade and consolidated currencies to enhance efficiency with international trade.

Vincent Reinhart – Works as a resident scholar for AEI, but in the past held several positions with the NY Fed.

I’m glad the main stream media decided to use a diverse group of economists to bounce monumental policy ideas off of each other.  (insert sarcasm here)
