Precious Metalhead #11: Downgrade, Music, Fights, Killswitch Engage

August 9th, 2011

What an incredible month – just in the last two weeks we’ve seen the debt ceiling debate, many days of stock market decline, the US credit rating downgrade, and a massive flight to precious metals.  We are hoping the economy can hold together long enough for us to release the movie… we think it will, though people are pretty nervous this week.

The silver lining for us is that the Federal Reserve, monetary policy, and fiscal policy are bigger issues than ever.  As the Federal Reserve explores what little else it can do, we even hear pundits declare that “the Fed could buy single-family homes.”   This, of course is key to the plot of the Silver Circle’s Strategic Housing Reserve, an idea that was considered outrageous just a year ago.   I hope they didn’t get the idea from us.

And sorry to miss last month’s entry – we get a bit obsessed with production over here.  I do owe it to y’all to keep you posted!

Production, Fights

The movie is coming along great.  So far we’re on budget and slightly late, but we will nail our deadlines and screenings, don’t worry.  We are cranking out some very cool scenes – lots of work going into the car chase right now.

Yesterday was “fight day” at the studio – we had three MMA artists, an actor, and crew on site to act through the fights of Silver Circle.  They were basically digital stunt doubles.  We were a sweaty mess, but no one got hurt and we had a lot of fun making some really incredible footage.  The fights are spectacular, plus we’re planning some animated special effects to take these scenes over the top.   Soon Megan will post a video online about the whole experience, including the part where she punched a fighter in the face.  But she can tell you about that.

Music – Awesome Bands!

We have also (almost) booked the bands for the movie.  In addition to the movie score, we’re featuring 5 songs by some great independent bands.  We’re far enough along that we can finally announce them, though we’re still finishing the legal details.

First – we’re very pleased to bring in Jon Schaffer, lead guitar and founder of the legendary heavy metal band, Iced Earth.  His solo project, Sons of Liberty (http://www.sons-of-liberty.net) will feature a great track, plus you’ll be likely to see Jon in the movie leading the protesters through some moves.  There’s more coming here soon…

Second – Jordan Page will be also joining us in song and animated presence as a… actually I can’t say without a spoiler.  Jordan is a constant at liberty-oriented festivals and a hugely talented musician spanning multiple styles.  You can see and hear Jordan at http://jordanpagemusic.com .

Next up is Rebel Inc. (http://www.rebelincmusic.com), who we met at PorcFest and who have played with Otep, Anti-Flag, Rise Against…  The Rebel Inc stage show is hard and furious, and we are very psyched to have them on board.  And our final two new songs are from The Last Internationale (www.cgtalentmanagement.com — select the band’s profile) and The Clinton Johnson Band () – awesome talent and we’re proud to have you all on board.

With all of these bands plus a great score, Silver Circle will be a very cool musical adventure even without any footage. If we had more hours in a day we could make a really cool soundtrack album…

Distribution Plans

We are hard at work planning several test screenings, our film festival strategy, and the movie theatre plan of attack.  This is a good time to make sure you are on our mailing list, as we will be asking you, the future audience, for your favorite cities and theaters to release Silver Circle.  Over the next few months, please engage with us and help us figure out where you are and how to reach you!

Song of the Month – Killswitch Engage – Self Revolution

Sometimes I just get sick of my own musical ideas – so I asked a friend and fan and fellow metalhead, Josh Oakes.  He came back right away with Self Revolution by Killswitch Engage.  Awesome choice, super deep lyrics.  Great performance too!

That’s all for right now – Enjoy!
