Strange Things I Dream: The AI-CIG Cannon
June 19th, 2012I have always had strange apocalyptic dreams, usually involving invasions of either zombie hordes or cyborg armies. Luckily, last night my subconscious provided me with a weapon exquisitely suited to fend off both, and it was so awesome I just felt I had to share. It’s called the Cyclical Inversion Galvanizer from Averroes Industries, or the “CIG Cannon” for short. Believe me, the weapon’s resemblance to a common cigarette is not lost on me. The subconscious never fails to produce unusual innovations. But I’d like to tell you about it.
The first thing you have to understand is that I’ve had continuity in my dreams since I was a child. Not always. But often enough that there are reoccurring characters and settings. Averroes Industries is a technology firm that discovered the self-named Averroes Field in which matter/energy inversion becomes possible. This of course unlocks near infinite energy. It makes Star Trek like transporters and replicators possible. And when used as a weapon it produces fun toys like the CIG Cannon.
The CIG Cannon has two settings. First, it can generate it’s own single molecule ammunition from it’s energy stores and project it at incredible velocity to essentially obliterate a target at the atomic level. Second, it can reabsorb small amounts of rubble, transfer it back into energy, and fire it as an energy weapon.
As you can imagine the atomic projectile setting makes short work of a horde of zombies, quickly converting them into a pile a pink goo not completely unlike the meat they serve kids in public school. And anyone who’s ever looked into surviving a zombie apocalypse knows running out of ammunition is a serious concern. No problem! Simply absorb the pink slime back into the cannon and you’re fully loaded again.
For cyborgs, this setting quickly grinds away whatever living tissue exists on the exterior, but it’s not as effective against the metallic skeletal structure. (Cyborgs long ago discovered adamantium in my dream world. It’s been a real problem.) The energy weapon setting handles this quite nicely, frying living tissue and circuit board alike and leaving a heap of lifeless metal perfect for absorption.
Nightmares don’t scare me anymore. I look forward to them more than regular dreams. Because since I learned to take some control of the dream world I find myself in having a nightmare is more like playing a video game, or living an action movie. It’s an opportunity to try out some of the awesome toys my subconscious manufactures at Averroes Industries. So, next time you find yourself in one of your classic nightmare scenarios, try to remember the AI-CIG Cannon, and see if you can’t turn the tables on your bad dreams.
