Concord PD Calls Free Staters Domestic Terrorists

August 1st, 2013

Back in February we speculated that a leaked Justice Department memo titled, “Lawfulness of a Lethal Operation Directed Against a U.S. Citizen” justified a drone strike on the Free State Project. The possibility mostly concerned the drone memo’s vague, easily-met conditions to justify murder, and New Hampshire State Representative Cynthia Chase saying that, “Free Staters are the single biggest threat the State is facing today.” Now it seems the Concord Police Department is just openly calling Free Staters domestic terrorists.
The Free State Project
is a movement of liberty-minded individuals moving to New Hampshire to consolidate their activism toward the creation of a free society. The project currently boasts over 13,000 signers who intend to move, and over 1,000 who have already moved. Many Free Staters are content to work within the system and have run and been elected to public office. Others prefer strategies outside the system from civil disobedience to advocating secession.

Government officials are dangerously slippery about who they call a terrorist. During the persecution of Liberty Dollar monetary architect Bernard Von NotHaus US Attorney Anne Tompkins said “Attempts to undermine the legitimate currency of this country are simply a unique form of domestic terrorism.” Which would seem to apply to Bitcoin as well.

In an application to acquire a Lenco BEARCAT (Ballistic Engineered Armored Response Counter Attack Truck), Concord PD stated:

“The State of New Hampshire’s experience with terrorism slants primarily towards the domestic type. We are fortunate that our State has not been victimized from a mass casualty event from an international terrorism strike however on the domestic front, the threat is real and here. Groups such as the Sovereign Citizens, Free Staters and Occupy New Hampshire are active and present daily challenges.”

They dance around it as much as they can, but they just called the Free State Project, Sovereign Citizens and Occupy New Hampshire domestic terrorist threats capable of a “mass casualty event.” Never mind that all of these movements are explicitly non-violent, and decentralized.

What’s truly sick about this is that all just to get themselves a new urban assault vehicle. These groups don’t pose any real threat to the Concord Police. Concord is where Free Staters go to work inside the system. But that application goes to the Federal Government, who are largely unaware of the facts on the ground in New Hampshire. So the Concord Police has endangered peaceful activists in their own community just to get some free toys from the Feds. Shame!

In response a is being organized. Concord Police are having a “Night Out Against Crime” to “strengthen neighborhood spirit” and activists are planning on coming out to raise awareness among the attendees with respectful signs and dialogue about this egregious false accusation and militarization.
