CALL TO ACTION: Audit the Fed Bill Scheduled for a Vote Tomorrow!

July 24th, 2012

Huge Fed news today! Doctor Ron Paul’s H.R. 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act (a.k.a. the Audit the Fed bill) is scheduled for vote tomorrow! It was originally scheduled for today but was delayed, so there’s still time. It will be debated on the House floor today and voted on tomorrow. The bill needs a two-thirds majority to pass, so if you believe in such things make sure and call your Congress Critter through the Capitol Hill switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask them to vote “Yes” on H.R. 459.

Many are predicting bipartisan support for the bill, but then the Federal Reserve is not the type of issue that breaks along party lines, so it’s really anybody’s guess.

In a public statement to the Financial Services Committee, Ben “Hindenburg” Bernanke said, “I agree absolutely with Dr. Paul that the Federal Reserve needs to be transparent and it needs to be accountable. I would argue that at this point, we are quite transparent and accountable.” Or course all the examples he gave were of self reporting and internal auditing. That kind of defeats the purpose of an independent audit from a third party. It’s not like the IRS lets you audit yourself.

Specifically what the Audit the Fed bill would do is open up monetary policy deliberations and decisions to audit by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) which are currently exempted from all over sight of the Federal Reserve. For details on the bill check out the Q&A on Ron Paul’s congressional site.

About the Author: Davi Barker

In grade school Davi refused to recite the pledge of allegiance because he didn't understand what it meant. He was ordered to do as he was told. In college he spent hours scouring through the congressional record trying to understand this strange machine. That's where he discovered Dr. Ron Paul. In 2007 he joined the End The Fed movement and found a political home with the libertarians. The Declaration of Independence claims that the government derives its power “from the consent of the governed." He does not consent.
