Flashback to ’12: Ron Paul Lectures Ben Bernanke with Silver Circle Coin

March 18th, 2013

The Silver Circle team members are huge fans of Congressman Ron Paul, arguably one of the greatest defenders of freedom in modern times. The good doctor waged a one-man, thirty-plus-year ideological war against the Federal Reserve system from his perch in Congress. Back when everyone else was heaping endless praise on market manipulators, Ron Paul held true to principles and stood in support of the free market. He was against the Federal Reserve before being against the Federal Reserve became cool (largely due to his efforts). In honor of this, Silver Circle‘s own Megan and Pasha once presented Dr Paul with one of the commemorative Silver Circle coins that we offer as officially-licensed merchandise.

Little did they know at the time that this presentation would set up a historic turn of events. Apparently, former Congressman Paul kept the coin on hand, as it turned back up in a video of a congressional hearing in which he questioned Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. In what turned out to be one of Paul’s final epic interrogations of Bernanke, he whipped out the Silver Circle coin and used it to lecture the Fed chair on the changing value of silver over the years. Check out the video of the testimony below, and let’s talk after the jump about that moment when your company’s merch is used by the Champion of the Constitution to lecture the person widely identified as the most powerful man in the world in a televised congressional hearing.

Collision with History

Ron Paul has been in the process of making history for several decades. However, it probably didn’t seem that way to him along the way. Early in his career, he was viewed as a quiet congressman with few legislative achievements. His Cassandra-like warnings were ignored for years until nearly all of them came true. To many, he symbolizes, not only the Constitution and freedom, but also standing up for what you believe in no matter what, even if everyone thinks you’re crazy for years and years because of it. He’s become a true inspiration to millions.

Meanwhile, Ben Bernanke has the unfortunate displeasure of serving as Chairman of the Federal Reserve at the precise moment in which the game of hot potato ends, leaving him in a position of authority as the century-old Ponzi scheme slips into Madoff mode. Ron Paul and Ben Bernanke were destined to face off in epic debates over monetary policy, and the Fed’s recently-bankrupt balance sheet armed Austrian economists with excellent arguments against central banking.

Silver Circle’s Date with Fate

As a film, Silver Circle holds the Federal Reserve to account for its manipulative and misguided policies. As such, our team proudly presented Congressman Paul with one of our Silver Circle commemorative coins, designed to look like the fictional rounds minted by Zoe and the rebels in the film, at a Ludwig von Mises event in Houston, TX. Though it couldn’t have been known at the time, as fate would have it, our coin would remain in the good doctor’s pocket until an epic showdown with Ben Bernanke, at which point he would pull it out like an ideological Sword of Damocles and punish the world’s most powerful financial tyrant for taking on power he can’t handle.

Find out where you can see Silver Circle by checking our theater and special screening schedule on  -->our event page -->. Also, don’t miss our New York City premiere event followed by a Q&A featuring Peter Schiff.
