Set Modeling

January 20th, 2010

We now have a pretty clear idea of all the sets we’ll need for the movie. Typically, they are conceived by our amazingly talented concept artist, and graphic novelist, Jackie Musto. After some discussion with Pasha Roberts, the director, she creates a sort of blueprint that our 3D modelers then use to build the set, like this train yard layout to the right.

Sometimes, however, our settings are specific places in this world, so we can use photo reference in place of sketches.

The Federal Reserve building in D.C. plays such an important role in the story, that we wanted to be sure that our set modeling was extremely accurate. The method for creating this model was pretty interesting.

During a recent trip, Pasha took a whole bunch of reference photos outside the Federal Reserve building in D.C….until he was nearly shaken down by a suspicious security guard.

Then, these photos, along with a ton of help from Google Earth, provided our 3d modelers with enough material to re-create the Fed!

And here’s the completed model in raw, untreated form!
