Girl Quits Her Job On Dry Erase Board

She weighs in at a whopping 100 pounds. She wears red librarian spectacles. Her weapon of choice? A dry erase board. She is feisty. She is fierce. She is Jenny.

Unfortunately, she’s also fake. Yes, internet cruisers were disappointed this morning to learn that Anonymous Jenny is actually Elyse Porterfield, an actress (with an amazing one-eyebrow raise).

The real Rebel(s) of the Week are John and Leo Resig for promptly jumping on the quitting-your-job-like-Slater-is-entertaining-and-cool-at-least-if-there’s-no-jailtime bandwagon. It was cute while it lasted.

Some bloggers are claiming to have spotted the fakers a mile away, “who publicly and dramatically quits their job (with the exception of JetBlueGuy) but doesn’t leave any trace of a real name or contact info for potential new employers to get in touch? Also, 33 photos? Really? Someone is trying way too hard. Two, maybe three photos would have been a little more realistic. Five tops. 33, people? Totally fake.”

Well excuse me for believing, boingboing.net, believing in something greater than myself.

Perhaps I didn’t think anyone as clever as Jenny would use an “I quit/my boss is a creep” video from one job as a resume for another job. And come on, would it have been that unrealistic for an unemployed girl with lots of free time to spend the day taking pictures of herself? We’ve all been there.

To me, Elyse, John and Leo are a success. Not only did they inspire countless disgruntled workers to fantasize about quitting their jobs before filling out more invoices, but also, they proved Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s line right, “the dry erase marker is mightier than the sword,” from his 1839 play, Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy.
