Movie Mondays: Introducing the Riddler

August 9th, 2010

Last week, Aceshowbiz.com reported that three of Inception’s stars are vying for the coveted role, the Riddler, in the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have all expressed interest in the part. After Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker, one of these actors could have big shoes to fill.

Silver Circle has decided to help director Chistopher Nolan with his difficult decision by doing some important background research. We wouldn’t want him to have to play favorites with his Inception cast.

Leonardo DiCaprio has a strong tie to the world of Batman as his father is a comic artist and comic book producer. The other candidates would just be comi-posers, and true comic fans would see through this with their laser beam vision.

Tom Hardy’s (no, not the poet) claim to the part is that he may be just as BA as the Riddler. He once said in an interview, “It’s the suburbs. The life is so privileged and peaceful and so bloody dull, it gives you the instinctive feral desire to f— everything up…I wish I could say I’d outgrown it, but violence still has a kind of romance for me. That’s why I get cast as criminals, villains, wretched characters.” Can you think of a better criminal, villian or wretch than the Riddler? Other than Tom Hardy I mean.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a noble actor, whose “path has been guided much more by the quality of the material and the integrity of the creative people involved, rather than pursuit of fame or fortune.” This reminds me a lot of how the Riddler executes his own craft, murder: “the Riddler is not a psychopathic murder…he commits his crimes in order to flaunt his intellectual superiority and a large portion of his crimes are non-violent in nature.” Why do you think JGL attended Columbia University? Maybe the two of them should give a Ted Talk together sometime. If only Joseph were a pacifist.

According to ComicBookMovie.com, Brian Austin Green, David Tennant, Dane Cook, Robin Williams, Adrien Brody, Johnny Depp, Andy Serkis, Eddie Murphy, Michael C. Hal and Jackson Rathbone are also interested in the part. If anyone of them have been diagnosed with OCD, they may dethrone the Inception crew for our endorsement.
