How a Comic Lover is Handling the Shift

September 3rd, 2010

Brian Doherty, a self-proclaimed comic fanatic since the age of 7, is now tackling a cross roads in his, once, favorite pastime.  Apparently the comic book industry is moving away from its roots as a niche compilation of stories and more importantly unique illustrations, to now cover many genres of education and entertainment.

Hollywood and comics have always had a tight relationship, however now you can find just about any story, idea, or educational piece turned into a hyped up comic production.  The threat is what is called “lit-comics”, a term coined by Ben Schwartz.  Perhaps some novels were regular novels for a reason.

The history of comics have not gotten the attention they deserve when it comes to their influence on a large chunk of young and old and their effect on society.  However, Ben Schwartz’s book tries to do the trick.
