Glenn Greenwald Crushing State Supremacist Bastards on CNN

December 28th, 2010

Glenn Greenwald just knocks it out of the park in this interview.  The snarky CNN anchor essentially calls Julian Assange a hypocrite for writing a book from which he hopes to profit like the political leaders he supposedly despises, due to his ever-mounting legal bills.  Then President Bush’s Homeland Security Adviser Fran Townsend accuses him of the standard charges neocons, or rather statists of all varieties have been hurling at him.  Take a look below and prepare to suppress your gag reflex.

When your blood stops boiling remember that Wikileaks is doing something right if it has the attack dogs of the state up in arms.  Lucky for us, Glenn Greenwald is there to challenge the bunk claims levied against Assange, which are essentially unadulterated lies!  Woo!  And he doesn’t let any of them slip by without striking them down!

He goes on the offensive a few times, telling Fran that many people think her boss, President Bush, committed crimes but he too would have to be charged and stand trial legally rather than some sort of Bradley Manning torturous indefinite holding without due process of law.

He lands another major blow against the anchor, telling her that as a journalist she should know that what Julian Assange did isn’t illegal, as it is a main function of investigative journalists to uncover classified information.  It is only illegal for United States Government employees to release the information but perfectly legal under the 1st Amendment for them to be published by journalists.  It is this precise reason which has kept him out of American prison, and thankful we are for that.

The fact that people who espouse such crazy dangerous opinions are mainstream pundits is more terrifying than anything Julian Assange, Wikileaks or Glenn Greenwald are doing.   Its great to see the propaganda machine turning at full speed but it is incredibly frightening to think that there are American citizens and public opinion leaders who support Assange’s unlawful assassination as a “terrorist.”  Hopefully, that tide is now turning with the help of heroic civil libertarians like Glenn Greenwald.
