Julian Assange Receives Book Deal
December 27th, 2010He doesn’t even want to write a book. The deal came from U.S. publisher Alfred A. Knopf as well as Conongate Books from the UK. The totals from these deals go well over a million dollars ($1.3 million to be exact). It’s not the personal enjoyment or the fruits from this labor that he is after. “I have to,” claims Assange. He needs this money for legal fees in order to keep Wikileaks functioning. That’s enough for the publishers. They know this will be a money maker!
Assange was recently released on bail after being accused of multiple sex crimes. His bank accounts have been frozen, different fundraising sources such as Paypal and MasterCard have refused to work with the organization, and Wikileaks has become the center of government attention which can only mean one thing: its demise.
There is speculation that the book will cover the internal and external struggles within the growth of Wikileaks as well as Assange’s experience as the leader of it all. This book deal can be seen as an opportunity to allow Assange to tell his story without the mainstream media filters in the way. He is not only a monumental figure of 2010; he is a figurehead of history. The 250,000 or so documents that were released this year from the State Department, including video from a deadly apache helicopter strike, began to change the public’s perception of U.S. foreign policy and leadership worldwide.
The manuscript is due by March and will hopefully be released at some point in 2011. Silver Circle has been following the Wikileaks story and will continue to provide you with the latest.
