Precious MetalHead #8: Comics, Progress, Clutch
April 7th, 2011Silver Circle On the Road
Over the last month we have talked to literally tens of thousands of people at South by Southwest in Austin, MegaCon in Orlando, and WonderCon in San Francisco. Tomorrow I’ll be presenting at a class to a few hundred students at the Mises High School Summit in Chicago. Then we get a little bit of a breather before Boston Comic Con.
Comic fans are awesome people. So creative, full of story and ideas, so energetic… At this point Megan and I are completely blase about speaking with pirates, stormtroopers, Wonder Woman, Quailman, people in stilts, people on leashes, you name it. A good number of existing facebook fans came by our booths, and we met many more who were eager to see a thriller-romance that entangled the Federal Reserve into the plot. We saw disappointingly few haters, I would have had fun with them.
It’s very validating to see that we’re onto something strong. It’s also very heartwarming to see our swag out there – stickers on peoples’ phones, wearing our shirts, etc – it’s great to have people embrace our story! The ultimate affirmation will be when we see some Silver Circle cosplay. This is what it’s like when ideas take on in the cultural sphere, not just the political or ideological.
So… welcome to the new fans! Check us out and follow along for an interesting ride this year as we finish the movie.
Production Speeds Forward
And we are racing forward in the animation process. We are almost done with the character animation, and will be moving on to facial animation next. There are nice renders done with multiple cameras and our sets – it starts to look like a real movie. We have the basic shot of our car chase down. It’s turning into a real watchable movie!
We’re really pleased to bring on our new Animator and Render Wrangler, Jenna. She rocks it. She keeps a butterfly knife on her desk as a test prop for our knife scene, so watch out. In addition to office defense, she will be managing hundreds of thousands of frames through our pipeline.
So far we are basically on schedule and budget, racing towards submission to a top ten film festival at the end of this year.
Metal Band of the Month: Clutch
There’s no reason for this choice except that I’ve been on a recent bender for this band: Clutch. I don’t know how to categorize them, sometimes they are put in with Sludge Metal, and you can hear the metal and hardcore roots, with a bit of the redneck south, and blues, and funk mixed in. They are just bizarre and wonderful. Here’s two songs:
A Shogun named Marcus
