“Love it or Leave it”

July 18th, 2011

Now there’s a response that seems to surface now and again with people expressing opposing views on how this country functions. It’s one of those absolute arguments that keep the conversation from heading in any serious direction. As a matter of fact, I was recently given this ultimatum. Instead of getting all huffy-puffy, I sat back and thought to myself is that how it works? According to a free-market, yes.

The original intent of the Constitution, and more significantly the 10th amendment, was to protect the people from an overreaching federal government. The powers that be were to default to the decisions of the 50 states, rather than one central government. However, in a free market if you don’t like, let’s say, the mexican restaurant in your town you can “Love it or leave it” and head to the next town over to get your chimichangas. So do you think this argument is sufficient?

While reading a “non-libertarian” FAQ page I came across some other options for those who strongly oppose the ways of our nanny state. So here are you choices:

1) Tolerate the social contract, and perhaps try to amend it

2) Leave it by emigrating

3) Violate it

4) Revolt

I’m sure you can guess which one the Rebels of Silver Circle would choose…
