Movie Monday: Filmacious Options are Expanding
August 22nd, 2011So not only can you find out what every one of your friends is doing in the world while sharing your current location during a rousing game of Farmville, you will now have the option to stream movies through any Facebook account. Imagine all 12,800 of our Facebook fans watching Silver Circle?
It’s not too far in the future now that Miramax has signed a deal with Facebook to begin a Video on Demand platform through the social networking site. It’s called Miramax eXperience, and it has been launched already in beta form with 20 titles available in the US (with 10 or less in the UK and Turkey). You can purchase the movies with Facebook points or $3 a movie.
The grand scheme of it all involves social games with your Facebook friends as well as more readily available titles that some of the most popular VOD providers don’t offer. The CEO of Miramax Mike Lang is far from impressed with the current VOD providers today and wants to recreate the experience in a user-friendly way.
“We believe over time as an industry we have to figure out a way to buy content digitally and use it interoperably across all devices.”
Let’s not forget that this streaming application will also function on iPads and smart phones. The Netflix app on my iPhone always seemed to be quite impressive, I’d like to see it topped.
