Metalhead #19 – Animation, Two Lanterns, Distribution, Comic, Megadeth
August 7th, 2012Fast Month
It’s been an incredibly fast month over here, and we’re closing in on a finished copy of Silver Circle. All of the animators are focused on the final crowd work of the opening and closing scenes. Crowds are unique challenge in animation; companies like Pixar or Blue Sky have whole departments dedicated making crowds look real. So in our inimitable scrappy way, we are working our small-studio clever ways to get a rioting crowd animated without the Pixar Army. With those done, the animation is really complete. From there the animators will be making some blooper reels and a music video for Jon Schaffer’s Sons of Liberty.
It’s all looking great and we’re moving forward with the huge cinema-quality rendering and compositing process. These multilayered 2K frames are absolutely huge, and will be clear enough to show on an IMAX. At this point we have over 30 Terabytes of frame storage and it still will not be enough. Also now that clips are locked, we can finish the foley and soundtrack work.
Two Lanterns Media
We are going to change our production company name prior to release. We originally formed as Lineplot Productions, a mathematical name that turns out to be very hard for non-math people to understand. So, in a tip of the old tri-cornered-hat, we are renaming the production company to Two Lanterns Media. Many of you will recognize the historical reference to the lanterns hung in Old North Church here in Boston a couple of hundred years ago. ”One if by land, two if by sea” and all of that. More to come as the details solidify! We’re excited to get this change done before we gain worldwide infamy for Silver Circle.
Film Distribution
Our distribution plans are shaping up! Our screener DVDs are out to several theatre releasing companies and are getting great reviews. The scale of our theatre release has everything to do with a fundraising campaign we are now running – we are reaching out to a number of major donors to sponsor theatres and advertising to get this film out as wide as possible. We’ll be in the theatres either way, but with the help of these folks we will get Silver Circle out to a much wider popular and media audience.
Comic cover by Clayton Henry!
We are working with Amazon to release our comic online. Esteemed comic artist Clayton Henry, famous for his work with Marvel Comics and DC Comics, will be drawing and inking a really cool cover to the book. We can’t wait to see the new book and to get it into your hands.
Song of the Month – Megadeth Hangar 18
Ok, this is what is sticking with me at the moment for song of the month – somehow this is a Megadeth month and this is one of their more cinematic videos. It’s not a spoiler to say that there are no aliens in Silver Circle, but you may find some here:
See you in the theatres!
Pasha.
