Money Monday – When is the Federal Reserve going to release its tax returns?

August 13th, 2012

President Barack Obama and the establishment media have been happily distracting you from the real issues by riding Mitt Romney pretty hard about not releasing his tax returns, and now with the Paul Ryan VP announcement over the weekend, the War on Tax Return Secrecy has opened up on another front, with questions about whether the Wisconsin congressman and poster child for fiscal conservatism (lolol) will release his own personal tax returns as well.

Will he? Won’t he? Oh dear me, I just don’t know if I can handle the suspense any longer! I’m literally sitting on the edge of my seat, gripping the sides so hard my knuckles are turning whiter than… well… Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney. I just haaave to know how much money Ryan makes and how much he’s donated to charity. It has so much to do with my life and affects me so significantly!

Never mind that we don’t have to wait for Ryan to release his voting record to see that he’s really no different at all than Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, George W. Bush, John McCain, and Franklin freaking Roosevelt. Never mind that all the information you need to realize that this campaign doesn’t really matter, that whoever wins won’t be any different than whomever loses, and that it’s all just a giant distraction is already all public knowledge. We should definitely be spending hours of our day discussing how important it is that we know exactly how many used pairs of socks Paul Ryan has donated to Goodwill for the tax write off. That’s important stuff.

So if it’s all a distraction, what’s it a distraction from?

The Federal Reserve of course. The establishment is angry and afraid that we’re even talking about it. There’s no doubt they miss the good old days when the Fed operated entirely off the radar of public awareness or opinion. All the fighting over who gets to control Congress and the White House– Goldman Sachs (R) or Goldman Sachs (D)– has been a very fortuitous (for them) public distraction for a century now, allowing the establishment to continue controlling the one thing that matters: the money. When they control the money, they control you. And they do control the money.

For all the bellyaching and vein popping over Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan’s tax returns, you’d think if they were actually earnest, Barack Obama, the rest of the Democrats, their rank and file party supporters, and the sycophantic, establishmentarian media would devote at least as much attention to the subject of getting the Federal Reserve to release its “tax returns.” So guess who isn’t earnest? All the above-mentioned serfs of the central bankers. Guess who is? Fed transparency advocates like Ron Paul. Ron Paul is so earnest, even his middle name is Ernest. Seriously. Wikipedia that. I promise I didn’t just now edit the entry.

This is a powerful talking point. Minus all my verbose ranting in this article, it all comes down to one simple question that inspired me to write this today, a question that a good liberty activist friend and colleague of mine– Barry Donegan–  posted to his Facebook Wall, causing my jaw to drop faster than Greece’s credit rating at the focused power of its brevity and wit:

“When is the Federal Reserve going to release its tax returns?”

If it’s that important for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to release their internal financial information so the American public can discern something about their character and make an informed voting decision between them and Barack Obama (bwa ha ha ha ha ha), then maybe, just maybe, it’s a little more important for the Federal Reserve to disclose its own internal financial information so the American public can discern just exactly what is happening to the money in the back pockets of THEIR OWN fat, Chick-fil-A sandwich-eating butts.

It’s very nice and all to see millionaires throw a bone to some charities and then brag about who gave more while voting themselves raises in Congress and lobbying for chunks of the economy to distribute to their friends, but what I’d really like to know is how much “charitable giving” the Federal Reserve has been doing with literally trillions of dollars of our money and purchasing power to foreign central banks and big Wall Street financials. Could we take the camera off the TV celebrities for just a second (and that’s mostly what politicians are– characters in a TV drama) and demand that the Federal Reserve release its tax returns?

Start asking this question everywhere you go. “When is the Federal Reserve going to release its tax returns?” I encourage you to update your Facebook status with it right now. Credit my friend Barry Donegan. If you want to link to this article too, I’ll love you forever, but I don’t care if you don’t. I just want you to ask the question. Ask it on your Twitter feed too. When people start talking red team / blue team talk at the water cooler or over the dinner table, pop this question. Draw it in chalk on your university campus sidewalk. Put it on a bumper sticker. Ask it in message forums. Leave it in comments on articles about Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney.

Consider this an assignment from Rebel HQ to all you monetary rebels out there. Go forth and ask this question. Find one article today about the circus show that is the 2012 presidential campaign and leave this question as a comment. Take 30 seconds and sign up if you have to in order to comment. Bonus points if you take a screenshot of your comment and any of its responses and report back to Rebel HQ by sending the screenshot to me in an email at wes -at- lineplot.com.

We demand to know: When is the Federal Reserve going to release ITS tax returns? And when will the American people start to care?
