Interview: Kevin Sorbo AKA Hercules at New Orleans Comic Con
December 12th, 2012Around the beginning of the month, our team was on hand at the 2012 Wizard World Comic Con in New Orleans presenting an exclusive screening of our upcoming 3D animated dystopian film Silver Circle. While we were there, we took a moment to film an interview with Kevin Sorbo, known by most as Hercules from the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
Kevin Sorbo will be appearing in the upcoming movie adaptation of J. Neil Schulman’s classic dystopian novel Alongside Night. The plot of the novel revolves around an inflationary economic crisis in which rebels strike back against a failed establishment through the use of counter-economics and agorism. We asked Kevin Sorbo some questions about Alongside Night, politics, the Federal Reserve, agorism, and his personal struggles with an aneurysm and three strokes. Check out the video interview below, and watch the trailer to Alongside Night after the jump.
Agorism: When Markets Overpower Force
Alongside Night by J. Neil Schulman explores the tradition of the dystopian science fiction story while introducing a political philosophy called agorism. Agorism is a form of peaceful revolution in which voluntary participants withdraw their consent from the state using counter-economics. Late libertarian thinker Samuel Edward Konkin III was one of the pioneers of agorism, and his contribution to the idea was commemorated by Schulman, who dedicated Alongside Night to Konkin.
The above trailer shows how eerily the events in Alongside Night match present-day circumstances. This is especially remarkable considering the fact that the book was originally released in 1979. In 2010, J. Neil Schulman jokingly accused the US government of attempting to steal the premise of his book by enacting policies that inevitably brought about most of the events from the story line.
Kevin Sorbo Shines a Light on Agorism and Alongside Night
Kevin Sorbo has worked hard to build a prolific career for himself. He also recently battled back from a series of illnesses, including an aneurysm and three strokes. By appearing in Alongside Night, he will encourage new audiences to explore the concept of agorism.
As you might have gleaned from the interview, Kevin Sorbo is attuned to the basic issues of the novel and film and aware of the dangers of out-of-control government. He talked about how alarming it was to discover that many of Schulman’s predictions from the novel have already come true.
Silver Circle Underground readers will be pleasantly surprised by Sorbo’s comments in the interview. It’s clear that he’s up-to-speed on the harmfully inflationary nature of central banking and opposed to government intervention into the economy. He struggles with inflation just like everyone else.
By appearing in Alongside Night, Kevin Sorbo shines a bright light on a relatively new political philosophy that has yet to be presented to the mainstream of society. When governments crush the market, agorism is the only way out for people in need of free enterprise and prosperity. For promoting freedom on film, Kevin Sorbo is this week’s Rebel of the Week.
