Liberty Activism Hits Reality TV with “Sovereign Living”

May 31st, 2013

Super activist John Bush is a longtime friend of Silver Circle. He helped us promote our Austin screening with his  news service. Or, you may know him from his work at Rise Up Radio, or perhaps the Center for Natural Living. Like so many of us, he has many irons in the fire. But now John and his fiance Cat Bleish are starting a new project that has us all very excited. A Sovereign Living reality TV show!

The Liberty Movement is rewriting an old familiar adage to “if you can’t beat’em, ignore’em” and the Bush/Bleish family is taking that advice to the extreme, fighting the system by creating their own from the ground up.

This power couple has a long history of exposing fusion centers, confronting the TSA, and generally being a thorn in the side of every sociocrat they come across. Now, with reinforcements in the form of two beautiful children, they aim to demonstrate just how sovereign they can live, by leaving central planners behind and transforming their 2.4 acre farm in Central Texas into a beacon of sustainable living. Best of all, they’re doing it on camera.

John says, “Sovereign Living is the idea that people ought to take responsibility for providing for themselves, their family, and their community from the provision of food, the provision of health care, to the provision of community defense.”

Sovereign Living: The Show is launching next fall and follows their personal journey to provide their own food, shelter, water and energy, as well as seeking alternatives to centralized healthcare and security. They aim to transform the reality TV genre into a medium of guerrilla education, not only achieving these goals for themselves, but teaching their viewers how to live a Sovereign Life.

I am thrilled by this! Not only because I’m finally moving to a property with a yard and I’m eager to glean some gardening tips, but also because if it’s a success, and why wouldn’t it be, it may be the first in an entire genre of liberty minded educational media. If it’s done right the Sovereign Living box set could easily serve as an educational course for anyone desiring to follow in John’s footsteps. And then what?

Imagine if Michael W. Dean and Neema Vedadi took their “teaching hospital” style Freedom Feens show and produced an educational course for new podcasters. Or imagine if Derrick J Freeman took all the cut footage from his documentary Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree and produced an educational course on civil disobedience. How many of us have tried to write the next great libertarian novel and gotten stuck? What of Tarrin Lupo taught an online course in creative writing? Would you watch? I would.

Face it. Many liberty activists lead fascinating lives.

But before you can launch a genre you’ve got to launch that first successful series, and before you can launch a series you’ve got to launch a successful pilot. A supporter-based fundraiser for Sovereign Living began this week to get the show off the ground. Go check out SovereignLiving.tv/theshow for more info, and become a supporter to get some of the awesome incentives you get for donating.

About the Author: Davi Barker

In grade school Davi refused to recite the pledge of allegiance because he didn't understand what it meant. He was ordered to do as he was told. In college he spent hours scouring through the congressional record trying to understand this strange machine. That's where he discovered Dr. Ron Paul. In 2007 he joined the End The Fed movement and found a political home with the libertarians. The Declaration of Independence claims that the government derives its power “from the consent of the governed." He does not consent.
