Rebel of the Week: Christoph Schlingensief
August 25th, 2010In memory of this great artist, we have dedicated the Rebel of the Week spot for him. Christoph Schlingensief was a cultural Rebel, bringing about change through his work in film and theatre.
A German native, he was well known for covering controversial topics throughout his work. One piece entitled, A Hundred Years with Adolf Hitler:
“…was shot in only one night and shows the chaotic Nazi clique romping noisily through the cellar, reveling in intrigues and violence.”
Schlingensief was eager to take on controversial issues regarding culture, humanism, and politics. He was mentored through a certain philosophy, Anthroposophy. This guided much of his work throughout the past 2o+ years.
Christoph was laid to rest after a battle with lung cancer at the young age of 49. His death has shook the film community internationally. So cheers to him today for taking the medium of film to enact social change and for being our “Rebel of the Week”
