Facts About the Cash Cow…Enjoy Boston Freedom Rally This Weekend!
September 16th, 2011With festivities ramping up in Boston for the Freedom Rally hosted by MassCann, I’d like to throw out some statistics about the Drug War. Each stat will be linked to the article where it was found, as to make sure you know we’re fact checking on this end!
- The US houses 25% of the world’s prisoners, even thought the US’s population is only 1/20 of the globe.
- In 1980 there were 580,900 drug related arrests — 401,982 of them were for marijuana.
- $22 billion dollars was spent on the War on Drugs in 2009.
- In a 2008 Zogby poll of likely voters 76% said the Drug War was a failure
- There are hundreds of thousands of deaths yearly from tobacco and alcohol, ZERO for marijuana use. (use alone, vehicular incidents not included)
- From 1984 to 1996, California built 21 new prisons, and only one new university.
- There are 16 states where Medicinal Marijuana is legal, but still federally illegal.
- Marijuana isn’t legal for adults to keep it away from children, cigarettes are legal for adults, produced and sold by licensed, regulated businesses, and that’s actually helped keep them away from kids.
- President Jimmy Carter, now calls for an end to the War on Drugs.
- The latest anti-pot campaign from the Feds warned against “people zoning out on their couches and diminishes video gaming skills…”
- Harvard economist, Jeffrey Miron, attests that legalizing drugs would add $76.8 billion to the economy.
- Despite efforts, teen drug use in 2010 was higher than previous years.
Now can you tell me again why we spend billions to keep drugs off the street, when they are there no matter what? Also, why are we protecting kids from marijuana when tobacco and alcohol are more dangerous substances?
