Make me a REBEL: Darryl W. Perry
March 8th, 2012Darryl Perry is the first to take us up on the offer to design a custom Silver Circle Rebel Avatar for those who share their rebel stories with us. As a reminder, Darryl was also a Rebel of the Week back in February for his Rebel Ink (Which has been enhanced in this photo). Here are the details if you’d like to participate in our Make me a REBEL! contest. Pretty soon we’ll be announcing the prize for the best submission, so stay tuned. But this is Darryl’s story…
I guess like most people who attended public school, I never learned the “whole story”of the Federal Reserve. I knew the basics; there was the First & Second Bank of the United States, Lincoln was the first President to have the Treasury issue paper currency then the Federal Reserve was created and issues money. Aside from these facts, I always thought it was “neat” that after the Second Bank of the US was closed and until the Federal Reserve was created as a central bank that each State was allowed to issue their own money.
I was also interested in the alternative currencies, of which I only knew about the Ithica Hours and I also knew that Native Americans used wampum. I remember having a conversation with a friend in High School about going back to using wampum as currency. Aside from thinking barter was “interesting” I never gave “money” a second thought until hearing about the Liberty Dollar around 2003 – 2004.I started looking into the company and reading that the Federal Reserve was a privately owned central bank with a monopoly on issuing currency. The fact that it’s privately owned isn’t why I have a problem with the Fed, I don’t like that they have a monopoly on issuing currency.
During 2008, I was one of roughly 2 dozen people to attend the first “End the Fed” protest in Birmingham, AL. Since then, I’ve published articles opposing central banking, in favor of honest money & alternative currency and protested the Fed in Missouri and Texas. As a member of the Boston Tea Party National Committee, I authored a resolution (which passed 5-0) in support of “Honest Money,” one week later Ron Paul introduced H.R. 4248: Free Competition in Currency Act of 2009.
Welcome aboard Darryl. Let the rebellion begin!
