Fed News Friday: Ron Paul finally defeats the Federal Reserve… in a new video game
April 13th, 2012If a Houston-based video game developer, Daniel Williams, 27, is successful, Ron Paul will finally defeat the Federal Reserve central banking system in the United States… in an upcoming video game, Ron Paul: the Road to REVOLution, based on the Texas congressman and 2012 presidential candidate’s career as a politician and advocate for Fed transparency, sound money, and free market banking…
It looks like Williams may just be successful in his quest. His recently published fundraiser on the crowd-funding site, Kickstarter, has already raised almost $6,000 from 58 backers with 17 days left to go as of this writing. The project’s backers must have been inspired by the screenshots and graphics that Williams has provided of his work in progress. They depict a Mario-style game in which Ron Paul jumps on little George W. Bush enemies instead of on “Goombas” as the Italian plumber would. Though like Mario, Ron Paul is out, of course, to collect a lot of GOLD coins:
Williams also says his upcoming Ron Paul video game will feature over 50 Levels designed around each of the states in the union and 13 “boss” fights representing each branch of the Federal Reserve Bank, culminating of course, in an “epic” encounter between Ron Paul and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. The young indie game developer also promises “Lots of easter eggs and fun stuff for Libertarians” as well as, “Handpainted backgrounds that represent the history and essence of each of the United States.” Sounds like a lot of fun!
In a recent interview with RawStory, Williams said, “I love video games, and I’m a programmer by trade. Programming video games is kind of a hobby of mine. I’m the lead programmer on a site called RonPaulSwag.com, where we sell t-shirts and promote liberty to younger crowds. A video game was kind of the next step for me.”
Williams also says he wants to do more than just promote sound money and libertarian ideas, he wants to promote independent art: “Through this game, and others, my sincere hope is to perpetuate the spirit of Indie Games, which I feel is sort of the last bastion of ‘Free’ gaming. There is so much red tape that game developers face in the world of gaming today that destroys what may have been some of our favorite games. Indie Gaming, I hope, will thrive in the face of dull, spiritless, cloned, big-budget games.” Sound money and independent art? We love this!
Ron Paul: the Road to REVOLution will be available to play for free on the Internet, and the developer said he’s also hoping to release it on Xbox Live Arcade, too. The game should be out by July.
