Rebel of the Week: Rebel Contest Winner!
April 25th, 2012It’s been a long strange road, but at long last it’s time to bring V Weeks of V to an end. As such it’s time to announce the winner of our Make me a Rebel Contest, and this week’s Rebel of the Week. We had a number of great submissions (Check out and for examples), but we’re awarding the final contest to this Rebel, not just for the story they submitted, but for their whole Rebel profile.
So, without further ado, the Rebel of the Week, the winner of the final V Contest, and the winner of their very own Guy Fawkes mask is…
Michele Seven

“I’ll be in court tomorrow for another unregistered vehicle case. My son, Omar goes in 2 weeks for the same plus driving without a license. Both of us will be found guilty and both will be appealed. I wish more were into it and am trying to inspire. But it’s pretty tough when people need to get to work to have their vehicles towed.”
“I have 2 bench warrants: driving a boat and hauling a trailer, both unregistered. I will probably waste more time in jail, away from my kids, job, and home, despite owning my vehicles and having never damaged another or their property with any of mine, ever. But, it is the justice system that people pay for. People have to stop paying.”
Michele is part of a class of Rebels active in Keene, New Hampshire, the “Live Free or Die” state. Basically the motto is their strategy. When they can they ignore the State, and when can’t they resist through civil disobedience and non cooperation. As a result, sometimes they are arrested, sometimes they face trials, and sometimes they go to jail so that others may be free. In this case Michele and her son were put on trial for driving an unregistered vehicle, taking a stand for the freedom to travel. Because fundamentally, when the DMV sends you their notice that it’s time to get your papers in order there is always a subtle threat of force behind the request.

“There is a funny little law here in NH that requires all business, public and private, to have hitching posts for horses…do you feel me? Aliana and I are gonna do some ridin’.”
So, I thought it would be fitting to picture her here liberating her equestrian friend from a life of involuntary servitude as a Keene Police horse. Live free or die, Baby. Let the rebellion begin!
Check out some of Michele’s other activism:
Michele Seven would make an excellent nomination for our upcoming Zoe Taylor Award for exceptional courage, principle and virtue in female liberty activism. Unfortunately, as part of the Silver Circle team I probably shouldn’t be making nominations. Maybe one of our readers will get on that.

Update:
Just spotted this on her Facebook wall.
“2 of the 3 charges were dismissed, which is a better offer than the plea deal the state proposed. DON’T TAKE THE PLEA!!! When I asked the judge if I could pay the fine amount to a charity instead of the state, the DA objected claiming that the attorney general has prohibited that because it will cause cops to arrest people for the purpose of raising money for charities, or some such nonsense. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I was speechless!”
