All 50 States Petitioning to Peacefully Secede
November 14th, 2012End the Fed… eral Government!
First it was 12, then it was 33… now it’s all 50 States with individuals petitioning the Obama Administration to allow them to peacefully secede from the United States. It started in Louisiana. Then Texas. WhiteHouse.gov provides a “service” whereby “citizens” may initiate a petition and then they have 30 days to obtain 150 online signatures in order to appear on the site, and 25,000 online signatures in order for the Obama administration to pay attention.
The Texas petition currently has 97,103 signatures and is the most popular petition on the entire site. It reads as follows:
The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
In addition, Louisiana (33,086), Florida (29,038), Georgia (27,462), Alabama (26,595), Tennessee (26,559), and North Carolina (25,863) have also reached the 25,000 signature benchmark. Before you think this is a response to the election, consider that Florida went to Obama in this last cycle.
The wave is getting a lot of attention. Another petition retaliates against the secessionists and asks the Obama administration to Strip the Citizenship from Everyone who Signed a Petition to Secede and Exile Them. It currently has 8,882 signatures. Another asks the Obama administration to Force all states to pay their portion of the national debt before they can secede from the union. It currently has 1,908 signatures. The Washington Post, CBS News, Fox News, and numerous other mainstream media sources have covered it.
It’s important to understand that these are driven by the population and not endorsed by the state governments. It’s also important to point out that almost every secession petition contains the word “Peaceful” or “Peacefully.” Even the petition to to strip secessionists of their citizenship calls for them to be “peacefully deported” (Whatever that means).
Between this, and the release of Lincoln movie this Friday, it seems like secession is in the air. It seems like an idea whose time has come.
