AntiWar.com is now accepting Bitcoin

It seems like Bitcoin is making waves all the time. Not long ago blog hosting giant, Word Press announced they would begin accepting Bitcoin for their paid features because PayPal and many credit card companies block access in over 60 countries for political reasons. Don’t Tread on Meme recently lauched a line of Bitcoin Bank Notes which allow you to transfer a sum of BTC to a paper note that fits in your wallet and then be digitized later by scanning a QR code. But one of the developments I’m most excited about is the announcement from AntiWar.com last week that they are now accepting the digital peer-to-peer currency as donations.
AntiWar.com was launched in 1995, to oppose the Bosnian war under the Clinton administration, but as wars have escalated so has apposition to war. Today the site is the leading hub of anti-war news and activism in the liberty movement, devoted not only to opposing war, but also the assaults on freedom that result from it. The site contains a blog, a radio show, and syndicated pieces from many of the big names in the peace movement, including Doctor Ron Paul.
The reason I’m most excited about AntiWar.com accepting BitCoin is that I know they experienced some budget cuts earlier this year which resulted in Scott Horton leaving his seven year possition as host of AntiWar Radio. Over the years Scott had interviewed Lew Rockwell, Jacob Hornberger, Tom Woods, Sheldon Richman and many others. There was no bad blood between the two, and Scott continued in radio with the The Scott Horton Show on the Liberty Radio Network, on Ron Paul Radio and on Anomaly Radio. But the point is that the old maxim “that which is economically unsustainable will not endure” is as true for the operating budgets of private organizations as for state budgets.
There’s no denying that the Bitcoin marketplace is freer than the dollar marketplace, even if it is only a fledgling economy. Market freedom means prosperity, prosperity means expendable wealth, which ultimately means donations for worthy causes. Donations languish in the dollar economy largely because the market is less free all the time. My hope is that dipping their toes in the Bitcoin economy will bring AntiWar.com the sustainablility they need to continue and grow.
Bitcoins are going to change the world, and one of the major changes it’s going to cause it that it’s going to be incredibly difficult for imperial powers to fund war.
