Nashville Music Venue Suffers Shocking Armed Raid by Regulators

June 20th, 2013

The Tennessean is reporting on allegations that the beloved East Nashville music venue and restaurant Family Wash was raided during peak business hours by armed regulators as a part of a routine, without-cause codes enforcement checkup. These same types of raids have been going on in the Music City for quite some time, but Family Wash was the first business to report it to the media. Agents from several departments were on hand including the Metro Police Department, Metro Codes enforcement, state-level ABC beer regulators, and a group called the Environmental Task Force. Employees who were present indicated that the regulators were armed, wore “flak” style jackets, and performed unwarranted ID checks on customers. A band, which was playing during the raid, had to stop their performance for the night, and most of the customers left. Family Wash lost significant income. The government attempted to justify this unannounced, intimidating raid as a routine codes checkup necessary for a safety license renewal.

Family Wash, on the other hand, feels bullied. As a Nashvillian, I agree that an unwarranted armed raid during peak hours is an inappropriate way to stop by for a codes checkup. If you live in the Music City and find this appalling, feel free to join me and other local liberty activists at the at The Filming Station on June 26th at 501 8th Avenue South. Not only will you get the opportunity to see an amazing Ron Paul-endorsed 3D animated dystopian film about a future scenario in which the Federal Reserve causes serious hyperinflation, but there will also be an after-party at Mafiaoza’s where we can get organized and make sure this type of regulatory overreach never happens again. Showings will take place at 6:15 and 8:15. Snag tickets early as it will likely sell out!
