Mos Def Force-Fed Gitmo Style

July 12th, 2013

This video pretty much speaks for itself, so I’ll keep it short. But a word of warning, this may be a little disturbing to some viewers. Just keep in mind it’s a daily occurrence for more than 40 Guantanamo Bay captives who are being force-fed, many of which have never faced their accuser, or been charged with any crime, or even seen the evidence against them.

Rapper Mos Def, known to friends and family as Yasiin Bey, has found an innovated way to kick off the Islamic month of Ramadan. Traditionally celebrated by abstaining from food during the daylight hours, Mos Def has agreed to be voluntarily subjected to the standard forced-feeding procedures practiced at Gitmo in solidarity with more than 100 hunger-strikers in Guantanamo Bay.

Leaked documents revealed the military’s standard operating procedure for force-feeding detainees. And you can read Ben Ferguson’s eyewitness account at the Guardian.

About the Author: Davi Barker

In grade school Davi refused to recite the pledge of allegiance because he didn't understand what it meant. He was ordered to do as he was told. In college he spent hours scouring through the congressional record trying to understand this strange machine. That's where he discovered Dr. Ron Paul. In 2007 he joined the End The Fed movement and found a political home with the libertarians. The Declaration of Independence claims that the government derives its power “from the consent of the governed." He does not consent.
