November 13th, 2013

Dr. Janda’s show has brought in some of the leading voices in the finance and precious metals world like Bix Weir, Eric Sprott, and Gerald Celente. However, his claim to fame is not only radio. As you can see in the name, he’s practiced medicine, and that has lead him to many different professions and philosophical beliefs…most notably, his book The Awakening of a Surgeon which was featured on Oprah and explains his accounts of the corruption within government and the healthcare industry.

This interview will be something you don’t want to miss while you’re relaxing on Sunday afternoon. Pasha will join Janda on the show to discuss some recent events in the finance sector as well as the latest with Silver Circle. (hint hint – might be some cool news about our holiday packages!)

You can stream the LIVE Podcast from 3-5pm EST this Sunday. Pasha will be on around 4pm. Check out Dr. Janda’s website here (click “Stream WAAM” on the right-hand side)

NSA, CIA Team Up, Tap Cell Phones to Find Drone Strike Targets

November 12th, 2013

Drones have changed warfare forever. Governments that possess them can now silently kill virtually anyone from the safety of a desk miles away, without warning and without risking the lives of any personnel. Such lethal convenience presents new challenges for human rights advocates, as governments sometimes use deadly force against innocent people without due process.

The business magazine Fast Company recently published an article pointing out the fact that the Central Intelligence Agency can target anyone for a drone strike by tracking the geolocation of the individual’s cell phone with the help of the National Security Agency. Allegedly, some cell phones can even be tracked while powered down. As smart phones are fast becoming a crucial part of modern life, most people are now holding a device that allows them to be targeted by drones.

Poll Suggests Rich Families Are Pulling Cash Out of the Market

November 11th, 2013

The world economy is in a fragile state. The Federal Reserve’s planned unwinding of its quantitative easing program has essentially been postponed indefinitely and may, in fact, be impossible to pull off. Experts worry that, if quantitative easing goes on for too long, a severe inflationary crisis might take place.

Bubbles in housing and student loans appear to be on the verge of popping, and the individual phase of the Obamacare implementation has been a total disaster, raising questions as to what aspects of the law will still be in place by the time the business mandate takes effect in a year. In these uncertain times, CNBC is reporting that wealthy families appear to be (quite rationally) sitting on cash and investing less of their wealth into the market. Government and Federal Reserve policies are causing confusion and preventing an economic recovery from taking place.

Controversy Erupts As SpongeBob Refuses Unemployment Benefits

November 8th, 2013

The underwater denizens of Bikini Bottom are not immune to the effects of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. In an upcoming November 11th episode of SpongeBob SquarePants, the lovable main character loses his job at the Krusty Krab. However, his admirable reaction to that crisis has ignited a furious political debate over welfare programs.

In the episode, SpongeBob’s friend Patrick attempts to convince him to collect unemployment benefits, and SpongeBob refuses, opting instead to look for a job. The resulting media coverage offended reporters at outlets like Media Matters, who moaned that the portrayal of the collection of government benefits as mooching undermines the social welfare system. However, SpongeBob’s principled stand is a great lesson for children and reflects the rugged individualism for which America was once known.

The Story Behind the Miles Franklin Logo in ‘Silver Circle’

November 7th, 2013

Thursday is Easter egg day on the Silver Circle blog, when we detail some of the hidden allusions and references that have been placed throughout the film. Silver Circle has some strong allies in the precious metals community. Today’s Easter egg is a tip of the hat to a titan among gold and silver coin companies, Miles Franklin.

Miles Franklin has been supportive of the film throughout the production process. The company sponsored our Boulder, Colorado screening, and its awesomely outspoken Marketing Director Andrew Hoffman has hosted an event and written guest blogs for us. In fact, Silver Circle Marketing Director Megan Duffield will be appearing alongside Hoffman in an upcoming podcast. As you watch the movie, keep an eye out for the Miles Franklin logo, which appears as graffiti on a wall in the background.

Portland, ME Legalizes Marijuana While IL Approves Same-Sex Marriage

November 6th, 2013

While the media drooled over the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial contests last night, voters in Portland, Maine were launching an all-out assault on cannabis prohibition. A referendum called Question 1, which legalizes recreational possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, passed with a clear majority. Medical marijuana is already legal in Maine.

Meanwhile, the Illinois legislature approved the legalization of same-sex marriage, and Governor Pat Quinn indicated that he would sign the bill into law in the future. After Illinois’ marriage ban is lifted, it will join 14 other states in allowing same-sex nuptials. Personal freedom and civil liberties gained serious momentum this week.

3D Printed Medical Awesomeness

November 5th, 2013

3D printers are awesome. I have no doubt that they are going to transform manufacturing as radically as the combustion engine changes transportation. The printable gun, aka The Liberator, thrust 3D printing into the headlines. It freaked out a lot of gun grabbers because it made it obvious that the old paradigm of gun control was about to become technologically irrelevant. But that’s just one industry. Everything that’s manufactured, from furniture to wrist watches will be impacted by this explosion, and soon the regulation of everything will be as difficult to control as file sharing. So what about medicine?

“Remember, Remember” Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot

November 5th, 2013

In the United Kingdom, Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated annually on November 5th, paying tribute to a moment in the 17th century when Guy Fawkes and a group of co-conspirators were caught attempting to blow up Great Britain’s House of Lords. The conspiracy, referred to as the Gunpowder Plot, was an effort by Catholic militants to assassinate the leadership of the Protestant government of King James I of England and replace it with a Catholic theocracy.

In the UK, the holiday is celebrated as the day the government survived a plot against it. However, the fictional graphic novel and movie V for Vendetta pitted a Guy Fawkes mask-wearing revolutionary against a tyrannical government, which has inspired a generation of people to wear the masks as a protest against government tyranny (including participants in today’s “Million Mask March”). Take a look at a video documenting the conspirators behind the Gunpowder Plot, found below, and let’s reconvene after to discuss the event’s cultural impact.
